SemWare uses a system "CVS" version management to better manage programming, without conflict with other developers.

Definition : CVS (Concurrent Versions System) is a client-server version control system by which several people can work simultaneously on the same set of files. Large development projects (especially open source projects) generally rely on this type of system so that a large number of developers can work on the same project. CVS can also manage concurrent access, that is to say, detect version conflicts when two people are working on the same file simultaneously.

CVS works from a centralized base called "repository". This database is hosted on a server containing the history of all the successive versions of each file. The repository stores the differences between successive versions, the dates of the updates, the name of the author of the update and a possible comment. Thus, it is possible to carry out a real follow-up of the modifications, while optimizing the storage space dedicated to the project.

Each person working on the project has a "répertoire de travail" (or «working copy»), also called «bac à sable» (or «sandbox»). This directory contains a copy of the database CVS (repository).
